UP Provincial Civil Service Exam (PCS) is a competitive examination conducted every year by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). UPPSC has released the recruitment exam notification for the year 2020 for the posts of Upper Subordinate Services, Assistant Conservator of Forest and Range Forest Officer.

Exam Pattern

The Preliminary examination will consist of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Both the papers will have objective Type & multiple-choice questions.

General Studies II paper is qualifying in nature with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. One-third of the marks assigned for each question will be deducted as penalty for the wrong answers. The merit of the Candidates will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-I of the Preliminary Examination.

  • History of India and Indian National Movement.

  • Economic and Social Development
  • General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change
  • General Science

General awareness about the above subjects with special reference to Uttar Pradesh is required.

General Studies II

  • Comprehension.
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
  • Decision making and problem-solving.
  • General mental ability
  • Elementary Mathematics upto Class X level- Arithmatic, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics.
  • General English upto Class X level.
  • General Hindi upto Class X level.


Exam Pattern

Mains will be a written examination (descriptive type) consisting of compulsory and optional subjects. There will be 6 papers on compulsory subjects and 2 papers on optional subjects. Candidates have to write 2 papers on any of one Optional subject specified in UPPSC notification.

The personality test will be conducted for 100 marks. It will relate to the matter of general interest keeping the matter of academic interest in view and for general awareness, intelligence, character, expression power/personality, and general suitability for the service.

The test is intended to judge the mental caliber of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only the candidate's intellectual qualities but also social traits and his/her interest in current affairs.
